COMFORT ZONE® PRODUCTS WITH FELIWAY®

What are pheromones?
Pheromones are naturally occurring chemical substances secreted by animals to communicate ownership of territory and mating availability to others. Pheromones can be secreted from various locations on the body.

How do cats use facial pheromones?
Cats use facial pheromones to familiarize themselves with their environment. Surfaces that have been marked with these pheromones are recognized by the cat as familiar, non-threatening, and comforting. These facial pheromones are proven to have an emotionally calming effect on cats. By mimicking them, Comfort Zone® Feliway® is able to soothe cats and help prevent urine marking.

What behaviors will the products reduce or stop?
Comfort Zone® Feliway® products help control urine marking and scratching, calm cats in transport and comfort cats in stressful environments. This unique product is a copy of the naturally occurring facial pheromones present in cats. The presence of these pheromones results in an emotional calming, reducing the cat's impulse to mark its territory. Comfort Zone® Feliway® products help reduce your cat's stress in the following environments and situations*:
●     New Home
●     Transportation (Spray)
●     Adjusting to a new environment such as hospitalization or boarding
●     New Furniture
●     Unfamiliar People
●     Other Animals

What behaviors cannot be expected to change?
As with any product, there are limitations to the effects. Behavior conditions can result from many causes and those not resolved by using the products should be addressed by a veterinarian.

How long does the product need to be used until noticeable positive effects are observed?
Ideally, the product should be used for at least one month. Results have been noticed as early as one week. The degree of results will also depend behaviors of your pet, some will respond faster and better than others.

Once the stress behavior is reduced, can I stop using Comfort Zone® Feliway® products?
No, for best results, product use should be continued for a minimum of 30 days. Many households will benefit from permanent use of Comfort Zone® Feliway® products.

What are the active ingredients?
In Comfort Zone® Feliway® products, an analogue of feline facial pheromones is the active ingredient.

Should both Comfort Zone® Feliway® products be used for better results?
Both the Spray and the Diffuser may be used in combination, but this largely depends on the stress behavior that has been identified. In case of severe marking problems in households with more than one cat, the spray may add a direct inhibiting effect and therefore help reduce the stress behavior in a shorter period of time with the addition of the Diffuser.

What are some helpful tips if no positive changes are observed?
First, make sure the Comfort Zone® Feliway® Diffuser is plugged in correctly and that the bottle is not empty. If the product has been plugged in for over 30 days and is still full, the diffuser may not be working. If your pet is still exhibiting stress behaviors after 30 days, then consulting your veterinarian is recommended.

What do I do if my pet's behavior gets worse?
It is very unlikely that Comfort Zone® Feliway® products will exacerbate any behaviors. In such a situation, please call your veterinarian.

If someone is currently using the Comfort Zone® Feliway® Spray, should they discontinue the spray and use only the Comfort Zone® Feliway® Diffuser?
That depends on the type of behavior they are trying to address. For addressing scratching behavior and calming cats in their carriers, the spray is the preferred product and use thereof should be continued. For households with more than one cat, to end urine marking or for dealing with stress-related behaviors, Comfort Zone® Feliway® Diffuser is the preferred product.

COMFORT ZONE® DIFFUSER WITH FELIWAY®

How does the Diffuser work?

The Diffuser works by using a heating element to disperse the pheromone analogue into the air. Once present, the pet breathes in the pheromone and it attaches to a receptive organ, called the vomeronasal organ located in the nasal cavity. The vomeronasal organ then signals the brain, via nerves, and a sense of well-being is established.

How do I use the Diffuser?

A Comfort Zone® Diffuser should be placed in the room where the cat spends most of its time which may or may not be where the stress behavior is the greatest. Remove the cap from the bottle. Attach the bottle to the Diffuser device and plug the product in. The Diffuser should be placed in an outlet that is open to the room. The product should not be placed behind furniture or in an electrical outlet near shelves, cabinets or other physical barriers, which may prevent dispersion of the pheromone. Each Diffuser will cover up to 700 square feet. If your pet has access to more than one floor in your home, a Diffuser should be used on each floor. Always refer to the package insert for complete instructions for use.

Should the product be plugged in all day?

COMFORT ZONE® MULTICAT

How is Comfort Zone® MultiCat different from Comfort Zone® Feliway® products?

The products contain two different types of pheromones that work differently. Comfort Zone® MultiCat is made with a synthetic version of a feline appeasing pheromone. Mother cats produce the feline appeasing pheromone during lactation to help kittens feel safe and secure after birth. Cats of all ages sense this pheromone, and it provides a calming effect that cats can recognize throughout life. Comfort Zone® MultiCat is clinically proven to reduce tension and conflicts between cats*.  Comfort Zone® Feliway® products contains a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone that cats use to mark their territories.

Can the Comfort Zone® Feliway® Diffusers and Comfort Zone® MultiCat Diffusers be used together?

Yes. Each product works differently, and can be used together if there is urine marking or vertical scratching along with tension and conflict between cats in the home.

What are the signs that there is tension between my cats?

Overt signs of tension between cats include: Biting, hissing, growling, spitting, stalking, chasing or fleeing from other cats in the home. Cats that get along sometimes sleep near each other and may groom each other occasionally.
