Tips to Reduce Dog Barking

What could make your dog scared or stressed?

  • Confinement
  • Frustration
  • Lack of exercise
  • Loneliness

Barking is common in shelters and boarding kennels for exactly these reasons. Dogs are pack animals that, by nature, will try to seek comfort or a playmate if they are lonely or bored. If they’re unable to do so, it could cause stress that leads to excessive indoor barking.

What can you do to help?

If your dog is barking due to confinement and/or a lack of exercise, try to provide more space for him to play, and toys to occupy his time and energy.

Try to provide more opportunities for regular exercise so he doesn’t feel “cooped up” too often.

Wrap your dog in a Comfort Zone Calming Vest. The vest provides constant, gentle pressure that creates a swaddling-like effect that helps reduce stress.
